So, you’ve completed your TCSOT Instructor Course — what’s next?

Many of our instructors choose to take the next step and affiliate with The Canine School of Trailing. But instead of us telling you why, we caught up with Rebecca Edney (aka Rebecca the Dog Trainer), who recently celebrated one year of trailing, to share her experience:
What made you want to affiliate with TCSOT originally?
“I was looking for a community that aligned with my values — kind, ethical, evidence-based training, but with a strong focus on client communication and support. TCSOT really stood out because it wasn’t just about training dogs, it was about coaching people. That blend of compassion and professionalism really appealed to me.”
Rebecca also highlighted how accessible and inclusive the TCSOT approach is — for dogs who struggle with other dogs or people, and for people who live with disabilities. The flexibility and adaptability were key reasons she joined us.
How has it been going for you over the past year?
“Honestly, it’s been brilliant. It gave me a framework I didn’t even realise I needed — especially with the business side of things. The support, the resources, the regular coaching — all of it’s helped me feel more confident and organised. I’ve also loved the community vibe — it never feels like you’re working alone.”
What made you decide to renew your affiliation?
“It was a no-brainer, really. The support alone is worth it, but it’s also the opportunities that come from being part of something bigger. Gaining top tips and tricks from other trails to really make my trails unique for clients, as well as boosting my confidence with working with a variety of people and dogs through trailing.”
What’s been an unexpected benefit or added bonus of affiliating with us?
“Definitely the work through Napo — I hadn’t expected that kind of opportunity. Earning nearly £800 in just two days felt huge, especially as it was steady, reliable work that still aligned with my values. It really opened my eyes to what’s possible when you’re part of a trusted organisation.”

Would you recommend affiliation to other trainers — and if so, why?
“100%. If you’re a trainer who wants to do good work and be supported while doing it — without feeling like you have to do it all on your own — this is the place to be. It’s not just a badge, it’s an actual network of people who get it and want you to thrive.”
Whether you’re nearing the end of your course or already finished, affiliation might be the next step for you.
